Our cafe is well known for being the place where a lot of famous bands were having live concerts. We are very proud on the fact that we can say that some of the biggest names of rock scene have performed their awesome songs on our stage. Or mission is to invite famous bands to the Sad Cafe and have our guests entertained every week. We are known as a place that never disappoints and we won’t stop now. The Sad Cafe is full of fun surprises and we guarantee you that there will be a lot more of it.

Hoobastank

Back in 2010 we had an opportunity to have one of the best alternative rock bands as our guests. You are probably guessing that the band’s name is Hoobastank. These guys really know how to make a party. An interest for this event was huge and all of the sudden more than a 500 people came at the Sad Cafe. The atmosphere was great, everybody were having fun. That was one of the firs concerts that made our cafe famous in the city. From that moment our business has been blooming and we now have customers from all around the world.

Incite

The second big event happened on a warm Summer night in 2014. We were having the band Incite performing at our cafe. The singer in the band is Richie Cvallera, who is a nephew of the famous metal singer Max Cavallera. The band even toured the world with Soulfly, where Max sings. They are known for having a really hard sound and super fun and explosive shows. You can imagine how many people came to the Sad Cafe that night. That was one of our favorite nights since we started this journey. The atmosphere was better than we expected. These cool guys played for 4 hours, our guests just didn’t let them go off the stage. They even took pictures with their fans and we got a lot of positive comments from the band and the people who came here to see them. That was truly an unforgettable experience for us. We are hoping to see you join us.

How to play a “rock” instrument at a basic level

November 2, 2017 by Sandra T. Wood • Cafe Art • Tags: Art, Guitar, Music •

If you are a fan of a good rock sound and you can’t stop your legs from dancing after hearing the first riff, you probably have a desire to play electric guitar like that awesome guy from your favorite band. Playing a guitar can be easy for some, but you will need to practice every day if you want to see good results fast. If you are truly determined not to quit after first week of learning, here are some useful tips for beginners.

Choose a right guitar

First of all, you have to decide if you are a “rock” or a “metal” person. There are different guitar types for these two genres. Your first guitar shouldn’t be expensive, but remember that the better guitar makes the better sound so it is of course more fun to play it and learn on it.

Rock guitar

The Squier model by Fender or an entry level Epiphone by Gibson are good for beginners and they are budget friendly.

Metal guitar

Some of the great brands are Jackson, DBZ, Ibanez, B. C. Rich and Dean. if you are a fan of that old school sound, Fender and Gibson clones are also pretty good for metal.

You must have an amplifier

For a beginner you should by a smaller one, no more than 30 watts for practice. You choose one of two amps – Tube and Solid-state.

Tube amplifiers and mostly used by professional rock players, and the big number of metal musicians use it too. But unfortunately, if you are a beginner, this amp wouldn’t be a right choice for you. They are way more expensive than a Solid-state amp and they are fragile and costly to repair.

On the other hand, Solid-state amplifiers are much cheaper and they are perfect for beginners. They sound a bit harsh, but it’s a lot easier to practice on them.

Learn to understand tablature

Tablature is a system of numbers which represent positions on the fretboard. The last string is the one closest to your chin when you play and the first one is the one closest to your feet.

Try to learn from easy video tutorials on the internet and also try to find the tablature of that same song. It is important for you to see the full picture of how the sound is made. After a while you will start to understand how it works and realize that is not that hard.

We have recently achieved one of our main goals, which is to provide research-based after school programming for Middle School students in the Sanborn and Timberlane School Districts. We are working in a collaborative effort with the community to build and strengthen youth and family involvement. This is a great place for kids that have desire to learn how to play rock instruments and to find out more about the music and art. Our great team of people is more than ready to fill your little one with knowledge. It is a great opportunity for your child to make new friends that has the same interests as yours and also to practice on the electric guitar or maybe drums, whatever it likes. Various instruments are available at our place to be practiced on as you can expect. We think that this program is very useful for our youth and we are hoping that you will join us.
