St. Mary' s Bank Shows Its' Colors at The Sad Cafe
Plaistow- Volunteers from St. Mary's Bank of New Hampshire picked
up paintbrushes and rollers and went to work at The Sad Café
today, joining hundreds of others from businesses across the state
participating in the annual United Way Day of Caring event. "St.
Mary's Bank and its' employees have shown us how much they care
for children, youth and families in New Hampshire with their participation
in the United Way Day of Caring. It is volunteerism like this that
allows The Sad Café and other nonprofits able to fulfill
their mission", says Andrea Bonner, Executive Director of The
Sad Café. "We are very grateful to St. Mary's Bank and
the United Way for this support."
The Sad Café serves the community through innovative programming
for youth and families, including serving as lead agency for the
Sanborn/Timberlane Safe and Drug Free Community Coalition. The Coalition
has provided for many local substance abuse treatment and prevention
programs over the past several years. Recently awarded a 3 to 6
Challenge grant by PlusTime NH, the Sad Café is converting
some space, with the assistance of the volunteers, to house the
Family Resource Center. The reference and resource center will have
a variety of resource media on family health and prevention available
for the community. The space will also be used by UNH graduate School
of Social Work intern Jessica Beckwith and newly hired after school
and volunteer programs director Gail Mills.
"Participating in the United Way Day of Caring allows volunteers
to see that they have made an immediate and tangible difference
and shared in the mission of an agency that they may not have been
previously familiar with. It also provides co-workers with the opportunity
to share in a positive experience outside of work," says Lori
Breen, Administrative Assistant and Outreach Coordinator for St.
Mary's Bank and volunteer for the day at The Sad Café.
Three additional volunteers from St. Mary's Bank set aside their
usual responsibilities and headed for Plaistow to do some much needed
sprucing up for the local nonprofit.
"It's personally rewarding to know that organizations like
St. Mary's Bank recognize the importance of serving the needs of
the broader community. The Sad Café is pleased to be a recipient
of their generosity", says Richard Gerrish, Vice Chair of the
Sad Café Board of Directors.
