“Give My Regards to Broadway” Youth Theater Goes on the Road to Rockingham County Nursing Home

Plaistow: On Tuesday, February 13 th The Sad Café Players of the Steppingstone Music Arts (SMARTS) program and the Rockingham County nursing facility residents and staff will chase away those winter blues with the toe tappin' and finger snappin' theater magic of George Cohan.

“We want community service to be part of our youth driven program” says Carly Starr, 18, youth director of Give My Regards to Broadway. “The cast has worked hard and knows the residents will enjoy these old favorites and standards like ‘You're a Grand Old Flag'. This is our Valentine to them!” Presenting community based revues of shows has a long tradition in The Sad Café Players and they are happy to be returning to the Rockingham facility.

“We are extremely proud of our SMARTS program participants. Music is a wonderful bridge between generations and this initiative shows how much youth want to give back to the community.”

The full length production of “Give My Regards to Broadway” will be March 23 rd and 24 th at 7 P.M. with a matinee at 2 P.M. on the 24 th at The Sad Café, 148, Route 125 in Plaistow. Anyone wishing to advertise in the playbill or donate to the program should contact Andrea Bonner at (603) 382-8893 or visit www.thesadcafe.com

The Sad Café Players are a program under the new Sad Café Steppingstone Music and Arts Program ( SMARTS). Research has shown that when students study the arts, academic performance improves in subjects such as mathematics, reading and writing. Under the new SMARTS program The Sad Café Players will be community youth driven, with adult mentorship, under the direction of Carly Starr, a talented local young actor. The Sad Café believes that every young person possesses both the desire and the capability for excellence in their achievements and that participation in the arts is an invaluable advantage in today's world. Through the arts discipline of theater performance, youth will develop personal expression skills, a sense of responsibility, integrity, problem solving skills, community service projects and time management skills. With The Sad Café Players, participant input will be integral to the production. Through theater young people learn to act on their dreams and respect the dreams of others. Also available through SAMRTS is the youth music program Making a Band, focusing on current pop and rock music styles, and additional arts programs will be offered in March
