Steppingstone Music Opportunities Inc. d.b.a. The Sad Café,
strives to maintain a safe, clean, substance free, family friendly
environment through which we provide, promote and support positive
life choices for our community through innovative programming.
Recent Accomplishments
- The Sad Café initiated a collaboration between the Sanborn/Timberlane
Safe and Drug Free Community Coalition and Family Strength resulting
in an application for Office of Juvenile Justice and Deliquency
Prevention funds. Funds were awarded to provide Sanborn/Timeberlane
substance/alcohol involved youth and their families with free
intensive home based treatment in 2005/2006.
- The Sad Cafe, on behalf of The Sanborn/Timberlane Safe and
Drug Free Community Coalition, was awarded a prevention contract
through the state Office of Alcohol and Drug Prevention, to develop
a Family Resource Center at The Sad Café. That Center will
be open to the public in October 2005, offering resource materials(books,
videos, resource manuals) on substance abuse/alcohol prevention,
intervention and treatment and other health related prevention
and resource information
- The Sad Café has been selected by the New Hampshire
State Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Recovery
working with Partnership for A Drug Free America as a state RADAR
(Regional Alcohol and Drug Awareness Resource) Network site to
coordinate prevention outreach within our region of the state.
- The Sad Café received a highly competitive United States
Department of Health and Human Services Compassion Fund grant
in 2003/2004 to develop capacity of the Sad Café and the
Timberlane Safe and Drug Free Community Coalition. Since receiving
the award the coalition has grown to include the Sanborn Regional
School District and has developed several task forces and initiatives
to serve the community.
- The Sad Café is the community based organization in
collaboration with Sanborn Regional Middle School developing a
service learning program to be incorporated in the school curriculum
by the 2004/2005 school year. This effort will serve to join the
community in community service/academic excellence expansion for
the district. The Sad Café initiated and secured the funds
($6,136) for this project.
- Working in collaboration with both the Timberlane and Sanborn
school districts the Sad Café has secured $6,000 in funds
to send teens from the middle and high school to various Teen
Institute leadership training programs. Over 35 teens are anticipated
to participate during the 2003/2004 school year.
- The Sad Café, in collaboration with UNH Extension Services
provides ongoing parenting classes free of charge.
- The Sad Café offers a summer transitional prevention
program to Sanborn and Timberlane Middle Schools in conjunction
with the collaborative project Stand By Me offered by Drugs are
Dangerous (DAD), Camp Lincoln/YMCA and The Sad Café.
In
2003, The Sad Cafe was named top All Ages Venue by
New Hampshire Magazine and received recognition from Governor
Benson for this honor.
